I have completed the marriage registration with my spouse from Taiwan in the Mainland Area. How do I apply for the marriage registration at the Household Registration Office in Taiwan ?

Spouse from Mainland China

I.Mainland China spouses of ROC citizens applying to enter ROC for visiting purpose may be granted with 1-month entry permit after approval by the authorizing organization. An extension of 5 months may be granted after passing the interview.

II.People of Mainland China who have passed the interview stated in the previous clause may re-apply to enter ROC again. The applicant may be granted to stay in ROC for 6 months after verification of marriage status by the authorizing organization and if there is no applicably laws or regulations to deny the application.

Where to apply?

I.Applicants who are residing in other countries should file the application to a ROC embassy, representative office or organization authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs located in the country.

II.Applicants who are residing Hong Kong or Macau should file the application to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hong Kong, address: 40th Fl., Tower One, Lippo Centre, 89 Queensway, Hong Kong; or Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Macau, address: Al. Dr. Carlos d'Assumpcao, No. 411- 417, Edif. Dynasty Plaza, 5 Andar J-O, Macau.

III.For applicants residing in China, the application must be filed by a relative staying in ROC to the National Immigration Agency service centers located in various cities or counties. Postal application will not be accepted.

Required documents

I.Please fill in the application form for people of Mainland China entering ROC with all the details required. Please attach a IV.5xIII.5cm in full color ID photo taken within 2 years. Hat must not be worn in the photo, and the party must not wear colored glasses, the facial features must be distinguishable and the length of the party? head must not be smaller than III.2cm or larger than III.6cm. The background of the photo must be white in color and must not be edited.

II.A copy of the Mainland China identification certificate or other documents certifying the applicant? identity. For applicants who have been granted entry into ROC before, please provide a copy of the previous ROC entry permit or China passport.

III.First time applicants must provide the certificate of marriage or copy of the certificate of marriage authenticated by the Straits Exchange Foundation, and a copy of the ROC spouse? household registration and ID card. The original copy will be returned after verification. Applicants reapplying for the entry permit must provide a copy of the household registration with the marriage registered or ID card. The original copy will be returned after verification.

IV.A letter of indemnity: please provide a letter of the indemnity signed by the guarantor, original and copy of the guarantor? ID card. The original copy will be returned after verification by the National Immigration Agency centers of various cities of counties. Please refer to the descriptions on the back of the letter of indemnity for qualifications of the guarantor.

V.Authorization letter: Not required if the applicant is staying in a foreign country, Hong Kong or Macau and the application is filed by the visited party personally. An authorization letter must be provided if the application is filed by other relatives or friends in ROC or by a travel agent.

VII.If the applicant is staying in a third country, a copy of the third country? entry permit, residence permit, or Hong Kong ID card must be provided. Mainland China spouse of ROC citizen who needs to be interviewed with the fingerprints filed, must enter ROC from a designated port.

VIII.The fees of the permit is NT$600. No cost will incur if registered return mail envelope is provided or if the permit is collected personally.

5 days upon approval. Time for interview and inspection is not included.

Extension method: the applicant must provide all the necessary documents for application 30 days prior to the expiry date.

Gentle Reminder

Number of applications and important issues:

I.Those entering ROC for visiting purpose must not stay in ROC for more than 6 months or beyond the duration of stay allowed. For those with Mainland China visiting permit or passport with validity of less than 7 months, extension will only be granted to 1 month before the permit or passport valid date.

II.Mainland China spouses who stay in ROC for more than 6 months may participate in the National Health Insurance Program. But those who fail to pay for the insurance fee, with permit extension, or those reapplying to enter ROC may not participate.

III.Those who remain in ROC beyond the valid date or those who participate in events or employments beyond the scope of the permit? approval may reapply for a new visiting permit only after the period of denial. The period of denial will be calculated from the day of departure. This is however not applicable to those who are visiting for funeral purposes.

IV.Application will be denied if the applicant has history of overstaying in ROC beyond the permit date. Period of denial is 1 year for overstaying in ROC for less than 6 months. Period of denial is 2 years for overstaying in ROC for more than 6 months and less but 1 year. Period of denial is 3-5 years for overstaying in ROC for more than 1 year but less than 3 years. Period of denial is 5-10 years for overstaying in ROC for more than 3 years. Period of denial will be reduced by half for Mainland Chinese spouses with underage children in ROC without household registration. The period of denial is not applicable to divorced Mainland China spouses underage children in ROC with household registration and if he/she has obligations towards the child.

V.Mainland China spouses who has never been interviewed or has yet to the pass the interview must provide a return ticket for first application or reapplication.

VI.All documents issued in China must be verified and authenticated by the authority or private organization designated by the Executive Yuan.

VII.Mainland Chinese spouse with marriage registered in ROC may for a 1 year multiple entry permit and will be granted entry/exit after applying for a visa within the permit? valid date. The visa will be valid for 6 months upon approval but the validity of the visa must not exceed that of the permit.
