If I used to have a ROC household registration and want to reinstate my ROC citizenship and household registration, how do I apply?

Status confirmation

I.Those who used to have household registrations and want to recover their status as the people of the Taiwan Area and household registrations in Taiwan.

II.The relevant information: the Notice for people of the Mainland Area who used to have household registrations to recover their status as the people of the Taiwan Area and household registrations in Taiwan.  Only those who went to the Mainland Area after 1987 are eligible for application.

Who will deliver those documents?

I.In person.

II.Spouses of Taiwan citizens.

III.Lineal relative within the third degree of kinship.

IV.Authorize others to apply.

Who are eligible for application?

Specific for those who used to have household registrations in Taiwan but were deprived of their status as the people of the Taiwan Area due to having a household registration in the Mainland Area or holding a mainland passport, but not including those who have obtained the status as the people of the Taiwan Area and then changed to the status as the people of the Mainland Area.  Also those who are permitted to recover the status as the people of the Taiwan Area and have household registrations again.

II.Applicants in the Mainland Area: authorize the spouses of Taiwan citizens, relatives within the third degree of kinship in the Taiwan Area or others to apply to the NIA by registered mails.

III.Applicants in Hong Kong or Macau: apply to any institutions or civic groups built or designated by the Executive Yuan in Hong Kong or Macau.

IV.Applicants in Hong Kong or Macau: apply to any institutions or civic groups built or designated by the Executive Yuan in Hong Kong or Macau.

Required Documents

I.An application form for people of the Mainland Area applying for permanent residency and an application form for those who used to have household registration applying for restore their status as the people of the Taiwan Area. A photo in color taken within six months in 4.5cm length and 3.5dm width where the head is not wearing a hat, glasses with tinted lenses, clearly visible without any covering, between 3.2cm and 3.6cm of the image's total height from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.  The photo shall also be taken in full face and half body in front of the white background, printed out with thin glossy color paper, and shall not be modified or use photomontage.

II.Relevant proofs of having had its household registration in the Mainland Area annulled or abandoned its passport verified by the responsible units.

III.Relevant proofs of being restored the status as the people of the Taiwan Area by the Ministry of the Interior.  The proofs will be issued by the NIA upon the permission of recovering the status as the people of the Taiwan Area, which need to be submitted for having a household registration again.

IV.Relevant proofs of having household registrations in the Taiwan Area.

V.An Exit and Entry permit in Taiwan.  But those who are not residing in Taiwan are exempted.

VI.Relevant supporting documents designated by the central competent authorities.

VII.Those who are on behalf of the principal shall submit a power of attorney verified by the responsible units.

VIII.Certification fee: NT$700 for applicants in Taiwan and NT$1,000 for applicants abroad.

IX.Fill in the recipient's name, address, post code and telephone on the prepaid registered envelope.
