Weather Outlook for 2011 Chinese New Year Holiday in Taiwan
Taipei, Taiwan--January 31, 2011-The newly released weather outlook by Central Weather Bureau (CWB) for the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday indicated that, virtually there is no considerably strong cold air mass to be affecting the Taiwan area, bringing a moderate temperature in this period across the island; however, daily weather systems may move rapidly. Cold surge accompanying the current weather system will remain over Taiwan through morning of February 1, 2011, but low temperature will keep 1~2 days as the cold surge weakens. Based upon the latest Numerical Weather Predictions, wet air from Mainland China will lead to poor visibility on the New Year’s Eve (February 2) in the central to northern mountainous areas of Taiwan, Kinmen, and Matsu, with chances of rain around the North, East Taiwan and central mountainous areas. Local fog will also appear in the western area, Kinmen, and Matsu February 3 (the New Year’s Day) through February 4 morning. Northeast monsoon is expected to move towards and affect the island on February 4, resulting in chances of rain over the North, East Taiwan and central mountainous areas, while change of temperature is little. On February 5-7, the weather will be getting relatively warm and mostly clear island-wide, except in the eastern and southeastern parts of Taiwan, while diurnal changes of temperature will get larger. The CWB added that due to abundant moisture, foggy weather tends to appear by February 4, which will cause poor visibility and probably affect transportation arrangement and driving safety; the public should take more precautions. Furthermore, beware indoor ventilation while using gas heater to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
